Did you know that you can use buttonhole elastic (BHE) for the gussets on the TWIST? Using small buttons sewn at each end of the casing and BHE you can make your gussets on the OS TWIST totally adjustable for your growing baby. You can find diaper making BHE here in Serena's Assunta Store.
You can also adjust the elastic by undoing the tack down stitches at each end of the casing and loosening or tightening your elastic. This is also how you would change out the elastic should you need to replace it.

Sharing a review on a Newborn TWIST
One of my testers made a newborn diaper to give to another mama. This diaper was made by Nina ♥. She used an adorable Ooga print pul outer with contrasting tabs. Nina made this one using the single snap row option and two snaps per wing. Making one wing with crossover snaps makes this diaper fit the teeny babies nicely!! SO cute!! Here is what that mama had to say about the TWIST diaper:
"LOVE it! I immediately tried it on her yesterday. I don't have any inserts that are as small as the diaper, I used a Flip stay dry and it was about an inch too long in each direction. Maybe a premie insert would fit it better? I didn't care. She was on an eating marathon yesterday, she's never drank as much as she did yesterday, I thought she was going to burble everything up but no, she was just that hungry. She peed a gallon into the diaper and much to my surprise it didn't leak at all. I would have thought the ends of the insert would have wicked up and out but they didn't. As for the fit I think she's 7 1/2 lbs (max) right now and she's using the last 2 snaps. I'll take pics some time today and send them to your email. It fits really well and I wish I had them 3 weeks ago when she was born and just about 6 lbs. This particular size is perfect for a 6 lb newborn which is nice because nothing fits a 6 pounder all that well. Its like an in between premie and everyone's bigger sized newborn."

Video tutorial for inner layer construction on the TWIST coming this weekend!
I am hoping to enlist a family member as my videographer this weekend so that I can put together a few video tutorials for the TWIST pattern. My main focus will be constructing the inner layer and how to do the modified welt pocket openings. I have been asked if the gussets can be made with PUL and I will be putting together a tutorial on how to do this modification with the TWIST pattern as it is totally doable.

Free Preemie/XS diaper sewing pattern
I haven't had the time to digitize this one and make it all pretty but if you are wanting to sew up itty bitty diapers for a baby that is very small or premature I have a freebie for you!

What is the TWIST? The TWIST is a really cool diaper pattern. It is available in standard diaper sizes newborn, small, medium and large and also a OS. The OS is slightly larger than the large so you get the most bang for your buck with a diaper that truly goes the distance size wise. This diaper pattern was sewn out and tested on many different sized babies and the results were fabulous. Pictured below is a newborn TWIST bound in 3/4 inch FOE. So cute and tiny!!
Features! This diaper is loaded with awesome features! My favorite, the internal gussets. They add no bulk to the middle of the diaper, no sagging in the front from the gussets pulling down on the diaper when in use. They create a nice side wall to keep in the messiest of messes and are SO easy to make!
Next really cool feature are the leak guards! The very back and front of the inside of the diaper are made with PUL. You can see it in the above picture. What this does is create a leak guard no matter if your baby sleeps on their tummy or back, wetness stays in the diaper and doesn't creep up onto their clothing or sheets!
One of the best parts of this diaper is that is has DUAL pocket openings. What does having two pocket openings mean for you? Well, it makes the diaper extremely easy to stuff, even for daddies with big hands! It also makes this a "no-touch" diaper. I don't know about you but I really don't like sticking my hand into a wet diaper and pulling out that wet insert. This style of inner design allows for your insert to agitate out in the wash! No more digging in a diaper to fish out a wet insert. Just dump any solids into the toilet and put the entire diaper into the pail.
This diaper looks great turned and top-stitched, or bound in FOE. The newborn size gives you the option of double or single row snaps. All sizes have snap settings or placement guides for hook and loop. I personally like to add loop fabric to the tummy panel when I make them without snaps. Makes for easy night time changes and makes them really daddy and daycare friendly!
